Lithium ion batteries contain very high amounts of energy and must be treated with respect. Do not re-wrap a physically damaged/shorted/vented battery. It is important that the positive terminal of the battery is covered, more so than the negative- as the “positive” end of a 18650 battery contains both negative and positive surfaces (positive contact, surrounded by negative ridge), any metal object bridging these surfaces will cause a hard short.
